About this product
A whole bed in satin, and it goes in the machine.
A microfibre satin set in red: one quilt cover, one flat sheet and four pillowcases, sized for a queen bed. Five colours, queen or king, four or six piece.
This is a satin bed set in polyester microfibre. Satin is the weave, which gives the smooth surface and the sheen; microfibre is the fibre, which is why the whole bed costs less than a single silk sheet and why it goes in the washing machine.
The queen 6 piece set in red is one quilt cover, one flat sheet and four pillowcases. There is no fitted sheet in the set.
Queen and king, in black, blue, gold, red and white. Every colour is the same fabric, and the dropdowns on this page switch between the colours and set sizes we hold in stock.
Microfibre satin is fade resistant and shrink resistant, and it takes marks less readily than silk. It washes cold on a gentle cycle and comes out close to wrinkle free.
It breathes less than cotton or silk, so some people sleep warmer under it. We say so here because the page should tell you what you are buying.
Dressing a whole bed in silk is expensive enough that most people do it one piece at a time. A microfibre satin set is the other route: the same low friction, glossy surface across the quilt cover, the flat sheet and the pillowcases, for less than one silk sheet costs.
The trade is real and worth stating. Microfibre does not breathe the way silk or cotton does, so some people sleep warmer under it. In exchange it is far harder to damage: it machine washes, it does not need shade drying, and it shrugs off marks that would stain silk.
The pillowcases in the set are the reason to think about four versus six. If you sleep two to a bed and change pillowcases more often than sheets, six piece gives you a spare pair and saves a wash.
Colour holds well on microfibre because the dye is in the fibre rather than printed on it, which is why the set is described as fade resistant. Sunlight is still what fades bedding, so line dry in the shade when you can.
The first wash should be on its own. A strong colour in a satin weave can transfer once, and once only.

Satin. Satin is a weave, not a fibre, and this set is woven from polyester microfibre. It has the smooth, glossy surface a satin weave gives, and because it is microfibre it goes in the washing machine. We do not sell silk sheets on this site and we do not describe this set as silk.
What is in the four piece set?
One quilt cover, one flat sheet and two pillowcases. There is no fitted sheet in the set.
What is in the six piece set?
One quilt cover, one flat sheet and four pillowcases. It is the four piece set with a spare pair of pillowcases.
Does the set include a fitted sheet?
No. Neither the four piece nor the six piece set includes a fitted sheet. The flat sheet can be tucked as a bottom sheet, or you can keep your own fitted sheet underneath.
Which sizes do you sell?
Queen and king. Each size has its own page and price, and the dropdown on this page switches between the sizes offered in red.
Which colours do you sell?
Black, blue, gold, red and white. Every colour is the same fabric at the same price for the same size and piece count. Not every colour is held in every size, so the dropdown only lists what we have.
How do I pick between queen and king?
By your quilt, not your bed frame. If you already own a quilt you like, order the cover size that matches it. If you are between sizes, or your mattress is deep or has a pillow top, take the larger size.
Are the exact dimensions listed?
The set is made to standard Australian queen and king quilt sizes. If you need the exact centimetre measurements before you order, email us and we will measure a set from stock and reply, usually within one working day.
Is the quilt cover closed with a zip or buttons?
Email us before you order if the closure type matters to you and we will check the set in stock for you. We would rather confirm it than guess on the page.
How does satin feel compared with cotton?
Smoother and cooler to the touch, with a sheen. It has less surface friction than cotton, so hair and skin slide over it rather than catching. It also feels lighter in the hand than a cotton sheet of similar weight.
Does microfibre satin breathe?
Less than cotton or silk. That is the honest trade: it washes and wears better than silk, and it costs far less, but some people sleep warmer under it in summer. If you run hot, the four piece set with a light blanket is the cooler combination.
Will the colour fade?
The dye is in the fibre rather than printed on it, so microfibre holds its colour well through washing. Direct sun is what fades bedding, so line dry in the shade when you can.
Will it shrink?
Microfibre is shrink resistant. Wash cold and dry on low heat and the set keeps its size.
Does satin wrinkle?
Much less than cotton. The set comes out of the wash close to wrinkle free, and any creases drop out once it is on the bed. It rarely needs ironing. If you do iron it, use the lowest setting.
How do I wash the set?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, with a mild detergent and no bleach. Line dry in the shade or tumble on the lowest heat. Avoid fabric softener, which can leave a film on the satin surface.
Should I wash it before first use?
Yes, and on its own. A strong colour in a satin weave can transfer once, and only once, so the first wash goes in without other laundry.
Can I tumble dry it?
Yes, on the lowest heat. High heat can mark the surface of a satin weave, so keep the dryer cool or line dry.
Does satin snag easily?
A satin weave has long floats on the surface, so a rough fingernail, a pet claw or a sharp ring can pull a thread. Treat it like any fine bedding: keep claws trimmed and jewellery off at night.
Is it slippery to sleep on?
The surface is smooth, which is the point, but the quilt cover and flat sheet stay put on the bed. People sometimes find a satin quilt slides off a satin flat sheet more easily than cotton does; a heavier quilt inside the cover solves that.
Is a satin set good for hot sleepers?
It feels cool to the touch when you get in, which many people like. Over a full night microfibre holds more warmth than cotton or silk. If overheating is your main concern, a cotton or linen bottom sheet under a satin quilt cover is a good compromise.
Is this red set the same fabric as the other colours?
Yes. Every colour is the same microfibre satin. Only the dye differs.
Why is the six piece set more than the four piece set?
Because it contains two more pillowcases. The quilt cover and flat sheet are identical.
Can I buy extra pillowcases to match?
Our satin pillowcases are sold singly in nine colours, including the five sheet colours. They are 100 per cent polyester satin, a close match in sheen to the set, and 51 cm by 76 cm.
Do you sell the quilt cover on its own?
Not at the moment. The sets are sold as four or six pieces only. If that changes it will appear on the shop page.
Where is the set shipped from?
From our own warehouse stock. Our team picks and packs each order and sends it by tracked courier anywhere in Australia.
How much is delivery?
We dispatch within 2 working days. Delivery then takes up to 7 working days by tracked courier. Delivery is free across Australia on orders of $99 or more, and $27.50 including GST below that. Remote and regional addresses may take longer.
Can I return the set if I change my mind?
Yes. Return it unused, in its original packaging, within 14 days of delivery and we refund the price you paid. You pay the return postage. This is a voluntary policy on top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
What if it arrives damaged or not as described?
Keep the packaging and email us your order number with photos. Under the Australian Consumer Law we repair, replace or refund it, and we pay the return postage.
Is it suitable as a gift?
A bed set is a practical gift, and the box is plain and compact. Tell us at checkout if it is going straight to the recipient and we will leave the invoice out of the parcel.
How do I ask a question before ordering?
Email theteam@satinsheets.au and a person on our team will answer, usually within one working day. Ask about the set in stock rather than relying on a guess from the photographs.
The complete guide
Four piece or six piece, queen or king, and what satin means here
4 min readSatin Sheets Company
What is in the box
Four piece: one quilt cover, one flat sheet and two pillowcases. Six piece: the same set with four pillowcases. Neither includes a fitted sheet, so check that against what you already own before you order.
Six piece is about laundry, not luxury
Pillowcases need washing more often than sheets do. A six piece set gives you a matching spare pair, so you can change the cases mid-week without stripping the bed. If you sleep alone, four piece is usually plenty.
Satin here means microfibre
Satin is a weave, not a fibre. This set is woven from polyester microfibre, which is where the price comes from. It gives you the smooth, glossy surface of satin across the whole bed, and it goes in the washing machine. We do not call it silk, because it is not.
What you gain and what you give up
You gain a machine washable bed with a low friction surface throughout, in a fabric that resists fading, shrinking and creasing. You give up some breathability: microfibre holds more warmth than cotton or silk, which some people like in July and notice in February.
Size by the quilt, not the bed frame
Quilt cover sizing is standard, but mattress depth is not. If your mattress is deep or has a pillow top and you are between sizes, take the larger. If you need exact centimetre measurements, email us and we will measure a set from stock.
Washing it
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, on its own for the first wash. No bleach, no fabric softener. Line dry in the shade or tumble on the lowest heat. It comes out close to wrinkle free, so it rarely needs ironing.
Choosing red
Red satin is a deep, saturated red. Wash it on its own for the first few washes, as strong dyes in a satin weave can transfer once.
